A PSU is a government-owned 

Organisations that play a critical 

role in our economy. However, 

appointing politicians or bureaucrats 

As chairpersons do not guarantee 

success; in fact, it may worsen the 

problems these organisations face. 

Such appointments can lead to more 

challenges for the workforce and 

ultimately jeopardise public interests.

Take the NTC Textiles Mills as a 

poignant example. Despite investing 

In modernisation, and the construction 

of new mills, the decision to shut 

down all operations thwarted 

any potential growth. This situation 

underscores the urgent need for 

a thoughtful approach to leadership 

in our public sector—one that 

prioritises efficacy and benefits 

the community over 

political interests.

The Karnataka High Court dismissed

a petition filed the Chairman of a

Govt Sugar Mill when govt appointed  

Lokayukta to enquire 

the financial irregularity during the 

tenure of the Chairman during his 

Job ets erc.

The Government must appoint only

qualified person(s) having sound

domain knowledge and professenal

excellence to the post of Chairman

in a Government Company or a 

public sector undertaking.

 

[ Textiles - India Expands Textile Market - Out side US.]

The Diversification efforts by the government have 

helped  mitigate the fall in textiles exports due to 

US tariffs. 

Government sources have told TNIE 

that the textiles sector exports during 

April. September 2025 

GREW in 111 countries, offsetting losses in the 

US market.

THESE 111 COUNTRIES contributed $ 8 billion during 

 APRIL.SEPTEMBER 2025 as against $ 7.7 Billion.a 

growth of 10% and 770.3 billion in absolute growth. 

SOURCES told TNIE. While total global textile exports 

rose by 0.1%, 

Textile exports to the US during the same 

period fell by 2.6% to $5.2 billion. 

This Sector is the 

worst hit by the 50% US tariffs. which came

into force on AUGUST 2025. 

Apparel Exports face a 63.9% duty in the US. 

India's largest textile export 

market. accounting for $ 10.8 billion or 35% 

of shipments 

last year.

However, the Government identified 40 markets 

where textile exports could be aggressively pushed.

These markets are spread across:

1. North America 2 Europe 3 Asia 4 Ltin America 

 5 and Oceania 

 As per the sources, efforts have paid dividends.

Data from the Government shows textile exports to 

38 Countries rose 50% YoY during April. 

September 2025 period. It rose by 25 to 50% in 

16 Countries and by less than 25% in 57 countries.

 The Government designated a dedicated  outreach

programme  to expand India's modest 5% to 8%

market share in these economies, with emphasis

on apparel.home textiles. technical 

textiles and

handicrafts, a Special focus was placed on free

trade agreement (FTA) partner nations. including

The recently signed INDIA & UK Comprehensive 

Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) Export

promotion councils.In coordination with the Indian

missions abroad. spearhead promotion drives to

position India as a reliable source of quality and 

sustainable and innovative textiles while reducing 

overdependence on a handful of traditional goods

markets of INDIA.

TEXTILE, APPAREL EXPORTS FALL

12% due to US tariffs.

Exports of textiles and apparel contracted 12.91%

from $3.061.54 million in October  2024 to $2.666.41

million in October 2025, primarily driven by high 

Tariffs on the export of apparel products from India

at over 60%. This is the steepest slide to the textiles

as the apparel sector has witnessed  ever since the 

announcement of the US tariff.

What Is National Technical Textiles Mission?

Textile materials that are manufactured for their technical performances and functional properties rather than aesthetic and decorative features falls under the technical textiles category. These products are broadly classified into 12 different categories- Agrotech, Oekotech, Buildtech, Meditech, Geotech, Clothtech, Mobiltech, Hometech, Sportstech,Indutech, Protech, Packtech. To position India as a global leader in TechnicalTextiles, the Ministry of Textiles launched this scheme.

TEXTILE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION (TRA)

Ministry of Textiles has been providing financial support to the Textile Research Associations engaged in the work of research and development.

There are 8 TRAs engaged in the work of research and development: - 1. Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA) 2. Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA) 3. South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) 4. Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) 5. Man-Made Textiles Research Association (MANTRA) 6. Synthetic and Art Silk Mills Research Association (SASMIRA) 7. Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA) 8. Wool Research Association (WRA) Besides these TRAs, University, Industry Associations, Government approved research centres such IITs/Government aided institutions/recognized engineering college/institutions approved by DST/DSIR etc. would be eligible to submit Project Proposals.

[ Hair Cutting Saloon uses Technical Textiles.]

Hair Cutting salon is visited by me whenever I feel my hair is getting out of my control and needs to be trimmed, it's the salon I drive to at 7:30 AM near my residence, in Morgosa Road, Malleswaram, Bangalore, Karnataka.

As I sat on the Chair it's mandatory to put a sheet of cloth as shown in the picture above which would be a fresh clean white cotton cloth. Which is used only once and then sent to washer man.

However when I went to the salon this time I found him pulling out a packet of blue cloth as I watched him standing behind me opened the blue cloth from the plastic cover and pulled out the cloth and spread it open and swong it over me head and spread it aroung me. It was closed around me in around my neck and asked me how he should trim and started his work and there was no more talk and their was no chance for me tofeel the cloth he had put.I justed watched him cutting my hairs with his tools and it was finished in 15 minutes.

I got up from my chair and asked the owner of the salon the cost of the sheet of plastic sheet ( which was indeed a Technical Textiles) he told me Rs.15/-

COTTON WOULD COST 300% more.
